Strategy Guild provides free PBM games (PBEM also) for those interested in free play by mail or play by email gaming. This is a project initiated by a web development company that was founded by a once-upon-a-time computer game designer and longtime PBM and PBEM gamer. Strategy Guild's free play by mail game vision is to provide free online play by email games that allow people to interact in ways that are not otherwise possible -- whether conspiring together on PBM plans of galactic conquest or having a PBEM virtual beer in a café that is caught between two parallel dimensions. This is play by email gaming at its very best.

Free PBM and PBEM Games

StarCon was modeled on StarWeb's basic gameplay but goes far beyond, with revisions and additions calculated to enhance combat, including new character types and powers, new ship types, and more extensive "ancient" technologies. In addition, our PBM gaming turnsheets and order validation are accessible 24x7 via a PBEM web interface.

Strategy Guild is currently running one play by mail game, StarCon, and is developing two other strategic, play-by-email, turn-based games. Members will be notified when these new games are ready to play.

Strategy Guild gaming is being offered at NO CHARGE to registered members -- it's completely free. And registration is completely free.

Strategy Guild Announces StarCon

Originally built in the early 80s by a fan of FBI's popular StarWeb,* StarCon began as a strategic PBM game for members of Compuserve that provided a subset of StarWeb's overall complexity. Turns were computer moderated with turnsheets available for download via the gaming forum, but running a turn still involved a certain degree of human involvement (scheduling the turn processing, and so forth). Eventually the developer was unable to invest the time needed to keep the game running.

Nearly 20 years later, StarCon lives again. Built entirely in .NET, the game processing is completely automated, running as a Windows Service application with SQL Server 2005 database integration. Players interact via the Strategy Guild web site, permitting them to post orders and review turnsheets at their leisure from anywhere. The new game exceeds the old in complexity, with a much higher potential for strategic gameplay and diplomacy.
