Strategy Guild Announces StarCon
Originally built in the early 80s by a fan of FBI's popular StarWeb,* StarCon began as a strategic PBM game for members of Compuserve that provided a subset of StarWeb's overall complexity. Turns were computer moderated with turnsheets available for download via the gaming forum, but running a turn still involved a certain degree of human involvement (scheduling the turn processing, and so forth). Eventually the developer was unable to invest the time needed to keep the game running.
Nearly 20 years later, StarCon lives again. Built entirely in .NET, the game processing is completely automated, running as a Windows Service application with SQL Server 2005 database integration. Players interact via the Strategy Guild web site, permitting them to post orders and review turnsheets at their leisure from anywhere. The new game exceeds the old in complexity, with a much higher potential for strategic gameplay and diplomacy.
